Victim Support
The youth offending teams (YOT) contact all known
victims of crime, to establish what the effects of the offences
have been upon them and to provide the victim with an opportunity
to become as involved as possible in the process and enable them
to move on.
Knowing the impact of the crime on the victim, influences
the work YOT does with the young offender. Where a victim agrees
to meet an offender, evidence shows this is likely to have a powerful
effect on deterring the young person from going on to commit more
crimes.
The multi-agency nature of the YOT teams - Youth
Justice Service, social workers, health advisors, police and Borough
Council working together - enables YOT to deliver support packages
to resolve the young persons’ issues which might be not
attending school, bullying or substance misuse.
It is YOT’s philosophy that every young person
who is the subject of a court order must offer some reparation
to society. This can range from direct financial compensation
to the victim through to community work to enhance the environment
of Dacorum.
