Abandoned vehicles

This is a Borough Council responsibility. The police only become involved if the vehicle was used in connection with a crime.

If you want to report an abandoned car or vehicle ring Dacorum Borough Council based at the Council’s Cupid Green waste depot in Hemel Hempstead on 01442 228666 or email using streetcare@dacorum.gov.uk or on line www.dacorum.gov.uk.

After a typical weekend the Dacorum Borugh Council deal with 20-50 abandoned vehicles. Following recent improvements, the Council can now start the process of removing a car just 24 hours after a removal notice is placed on it, rather than the previous seven days.

A new direct electronic link with the DVLA in Swansea has also cut the time it takes to find out if the car has a registered owner from 3 weeks to a matter of days.

Not all cars which seem abandoned can be removed. The fact that a car does not have a valid tax disk does not mean it is abandoned.
