Noisy neighbours

Noise from neighbouring houses and car alarms can be annoying and upsetting. Dacorum Borough Council may be able to help and has a leaflet called ‘Helping You to Deal with Noise’ containing lots of information on how to deal with this issue.

As well as guidelines on how we can help, and how to contact us with a complaint, the leaflet also contains practical tips on things like approaching a neighbour to resolve the problem informally and Mediation Dacorum who should be contacted as early as possible.

The Borough Council aims to help by:

  • Advising on noise problems
  • Helping people to resolve noise nuisance
  • Advising everyone involved on the best way forward
  • Taking legal action where a statutory nuisance is found
  • Prosecuting for continuing offences
  • Advice from Tenant Services Officers for tenants or if its tenants are causing nuisance.

When you contact us, we will discuss your problem with you and give you advice on what action you can take. There are special arrangements for dealing with intruder and car alarms and exceptionally rowdy parties, where we work closely with the police.
