Action Plan

PoliceTo reduce and prevent violent crime, Hertfordshire Constabulary will:

  • Put extra patrols on trouble spots - such as town centres on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Encourage the use of CCTV cameras to act as a deterrent and to identify offenders.
  • Collect, analyse and act on information using new IT systems which make it easier for the police, social services and the Council to cross-reference information and identify trouble makers and trouble spots.
  • Promote safety awareness campaigns for young people in schools and clubs working with Hertfordshire County Council’s Children, Schools and Families Unit and the police schools liaison officer.
  • Work with owners of pubs and clubs and the trade organisation Pubwatch to look at ways to stop violence flaring up.
  • Increase awareness of Dacorum’s police officers who have special skills and experience of dealing with Domestic Violence (Helpline 08088 088 088) and Hate Crime. The police define “Hate Crime” as any crime committed because of the victim’s race, colour, religion, sexual orientation or physical or mental disability. The priority of these officers is not just to secure a conviction but to stop repeat victimisation.
  • Encourage victims to report crimes of violence and make use of the charity known as Victim Support.

Residents who are not comfortable about reporting crimes to their local police station are encouraged to use the anonymous Crimestoppers number: 0800 555111.
