Dealing with Abandoned Vehicles

This is a Borough Council responsibility. The police only become involved if the vehicle was used in connection with a crime.

If you want to report an abandoned vehicle, you can let us know in the following                       ways on line or telephone 01442 867858.

After a typical weekend Mr Birtchnell has to deal with 20-50 abandoned vehicles. Following recent improvements, the Council can now start the process of removing a car just 24 hours after a removal notice is placed on it, rather than the previous seven days.

A new direct electronic link with the DVLA in Swansea has also cut the time it takes to find out if the car has a registered owner from 3 weeks to a matter of days.

Not all cars which appear abandoned can be removed. The fact that a car does not have a valid tax disk does not mean it is abandoned.
