Crime statistics in Dacorum for year 1st April
2007 to 31st March 2008
It is important to place crime statistics in Dacorum
into context:
From 1st April last year the Home Office introduced
new national crime reporting standards. Prior to this there had
been a lack of continuity between different policing areas across
the country as to how crime was recorded. The new standards provide
a more accurate picture between actual and reported crime. The
gap between actual crime of which a great deal went unreported
and reported crime was identified through the British Crime Survey.
With the new national standards all sections of
the community are encouraged to come forward and report crime.
The new standards and their ethical application are achieving
this aim.
Inevitably the amount of crime reported over the
last year at national, regional, county and local has risen.
Against this background Hertfordshire is the second
most crime free county in the East of England Region. The East
of England Region records the lowest crime rates in all of England
and Wales. In Hertfordshire out of the ten district council areas,
during 2003 to 2004 Dacorum recorded the second lowest rise in
crime.
Dacorum is therefore the second safest council area
in the second safest county in England and Wales.
When compared against similar local authority areas,
Dacorum has relatively low crime rates and remains a safe place
to live, work and travel through.Home
