Neighbourhood Watch Explained
Nearly
16,000 households in Dacorum are covered by Neighbourhood Watch
schemes and more are being formed all the time.
National surveys show that crime has been reduced
in Neighbourhood Watch areas by up to 64%. Most of the big insurance
companies now offer a discount of up to 15% on contents insurance
premiums for scheme members.
There are more than 3,000 Neighbourhood
Watch Schemes across Hertfordshire. Many more thousands of residents
belong to the schemes providing vital information to the police
and helping to make areas safer.
To find out if you live in a Neighbourhood
Watch area or if you want to start up a new watch use the Watch
Finder tool. It will ask for your postcode so it can
find the nearest active watch to your location. Currently only
Hertfordshire residents & businesses are supported.

Online Watch
Link (OWL) IT System
OWL is a messaging and admin. System developed for NHW in Herts.
The system was initially devised by a NHW Co-ordinator, Gary Fenton,
to run his own scheme. Following consultation with NHW across
the County, as well as with Police and Police Authority, it was
decided to develop the system for use within Hertfordshire. The
system which provides tools for sending messages in a variety
of formats and also allows NHW Co-ordinators and members to perform
admin. tasks on their schemes, can be viewed at www.owl.co.uk
The system was trialled in Welwyn/Hatfield over the summer
and is now being to be rolled-out across the County.
