The Hertfordshire Policing Plan

Hertfordshire Police Authority holds the Chief Constable and his team toaccount and scrutinizes the Constabulary’s performance over the year. This Plan sets out what the Police Authority expects the police to do in the next three years to make Hertfordshire an even safer county .It focuses on the key priority areas and reflects what the public and our partners have told us are their major concerns. The plan acknowledges where performance is already strong and identifies areas where police performance needs to get better. The Authority has put particular emphasis on the following:

  • Reduce the most serious violent, organised and acquisitive crimes
  • Protect vulnerable people, including victims of sexual offences
  • Bring more serious offenders to justice
  • Improve public confidence and satisfaction in police services
  • Increase people’s feelings of safety
  • Reduce anti-social behaviour, including alcohol-related disorder

The Authority sets the budget for the police, ensuring that they have enough money to deliver these priorities whilst making sure that the Hertfordshire council taxpayers get excellent value for money. Hertfordshire has one of the top performing forces in the country, despite its police precept (specific council tax) being below the national average. We aim to keep it that way and the Authority will continue to assess Hertfordshire against its most similar forces (MSFs*) to make sure its performance compares well. This Policing Plan aligns with other plans produced by local authorities and other local bodies. In particular, the Authority has worked closely with its partners to make sure that the objectives and targets in this plan complement those in local and countywide Community Safety Plans, Hertfordshire’s Local Area Agreement and Criminal Justice Board’s Plan and the county’s sustainable communities’ strategy, Herts 2021. It also takes account of national government objectives and priorities, such as counter-terrorism. Together they help to make Hertfordshire a safe county and an excellent place to live.
