Community Initiatives in Schools
National figures show that by the age of 16, two
out of five children will have tried a drug of some form.
In response, Dacorum’s Primary Care Trust,
the police, Druglink, the Borough Council and Hertfordshire County
Council are taking messages about the importance of staying healthy
out into the local schools. Here are some of their initiatives:
Drug Awareness for School years 7 –
9 an interactive presentation on smoking, alcohol and
illegal drugs. Topics include the law and its consequences, effects
on others, dispelling myths and promoting an awareness of a healthy

Life Skills project for those in the final
year of Primary School This tackles issues around bullying,
self esteem and peer pressure. It also includes sessions focussing

Be Happy, Keep Healthy, Stay Safe Project
– Session includes topics like healthy eating, healthy bodies
and teeth, respect for others, rules for living and staying safe,
who to trust, community awareness, and an awareness of the dangers

Rock music Challenge – the
rock music challenge is an annual performing arts competition
for secondary schools where each performance must carry an anti-drugs
