WITNESS APPEAL: JEWELLERY THEFT IN BERKHAMSTED

POLICE are appealing for information and witnesses to a robbery in Berkhamsted yesterday (Tuesday, July 13).

At around 3.50pm offenders have approached a car (a Vauxhall Astra) parked on Church Lane, smashed numerous windows with an unknown implement and removed a lap top from the rear seat and a large amount of jewellery, which was in a silver briefcase, from the boot. There were two men in the car at the time who were not hurt.

The offenders then made off in a silver V40 Volvo Estate which was later found abandoned in Waterside, off Holliday Street. It's believed they made off from there in two other vehicles, possibly a dark red car and a black car (both saloons), and may have come from the London area.

Detective Inspector Fraser Wylie, investigating, said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or who knows anything about who may be responsible to call police.

“Did you see this car making off from Church Lane along the High Street to Waterside? Were you in the High Street near St Peters Church at the time of the incident and saw any of the three vehicles in the area or any other unusual activity?”

Anyone with information should call police on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers (an independent charity) anonymously on 0800 555 111.
