PHOTO RELEASED AFTER BURGLARY IN TRING

Burglary in TringPOLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after a burglary in Tring on Saturday November 7 where items including jewellery were stolen.

The incident happened between midday and just after 7.30pm on Dean Furlong. Offenders gained entry to an address, then searched the property before making off in an unknown direction.

Stolen items included a sum of cash, a mobile phone, a Sony digital camera, a Nintendo DS, a number of single earrings (matching earrings pictured) and a gold necklace with a round-shaped charm etched with number 21 on it.

Investigator Jordan Carter said: “We are appealing for anyone who might have seen these items for sale anywhere or saw anything at the time to come forward.

“We take incidents like this very seriously and a dedicated team are investigating this crime along with six others as a series.

“We would like to reassure residents in Tring and the surrounding villages that Tring still remains a very low crime area where incidents of this kind are rare.

“However, we would encourage people to follow some crime prevention advice to help beat burglars.”

Police have issued the following advice:
• Make sure you double-lock any UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it (to engage the security features) before you go to bed or leave your home (if you remove the key make sure you have a fire escape plan).
• Check all doors are locked and all windows, including those upstairs, are secure before you go out
• Consider installing alarms and ‘dusk to dawn' security lighting.
• Secure your rear garden - lock your shed, shut and lock any gates and keep fences maintained. Don't leave ladders and tools outside - they could be used by a burglar.
• Use timer switches on lamps to give the impression somebody is at home.
• At home, keep all loose valuables out of sight of any would-be thieves, ideally under lock and key.
• Don't leave any boxes which advertise to thieves what's available in your home outside by the dustbin. Where possible, keep your wheelie bin a good distance behind the gate or fence to prevent them being used to get into the garden.
• Postcode marking your valuables with a UV pen and registering them on a free property database like www.immobilise.com can work as a deterrent to thieves and can increase the chances of your property being recovered if it is stolen.
• Police need information on any suspicious activity in your local area, as it could help to identify and arrest burglars. Keep an eye out for registration numbers and descriptions of any vehicles seen in the area that wouldn't usually be there, or descriptions of people acting suspicious, and report them.
• For more tips and advice, contact your local crime prevention officer Dave Mahon on 01442 271045. Alternatively, visit the new virtual house, accessible from the homepage of the Hertfordshire Constabulary website www.herts.police.uk

Anyone with any information on this crime should ring Jordan Carter via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers (an independent charity) anonymously on 0800 555111.
