THIRTEEN NUISANCE VEHICLES TAKEN OFF THE ROAD IN A TOWN CRACKDOWN

SPEEDING, noisy and defect cars were targeted in an operation on Jarman park in Hemel on Friday (February 29) night, resulting in 13 confiscations.

Operation Tallyho saw Hemel Neighbourhood Team, VOSA and the Road Policing Unit join forces to tackle problems with vehicles congregating and speeding in the leisure area.

Overall results were:
• 13 vehicles were taken off the road for offences including no driver license or a non-road worthy car
• 74 vehicles or people were stopped
• 3 vehicle defect rectification offences
• 2 section 59s for careless or inconsiderate driving
• 1 arrest for an outstanding offence

Sergeant Tessa Barrow from the Hemel Neighbourhood Team said: “The operation was a great success and a high number of vehicles were stopped on Friday evening.
“This sends a clear message to the public that we take these kinds of offences seriously and they will be dealt with robustly.”
She added: “We take people's safety very seriously and cars that are not roadworthy undermine that, so this is a positive step in dealing with it.”

The ongoing operation, launched in February, follows on from Operation Thorney in March 2007, which was based in Hemel town centre.

Officers also renewed their appeal for those with information on nuisance vehicles to report them via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
