ON THE BEAT IN BERKHAMSTED
RESIDENTS
and businesses in Berkhamsted will be seeing a new
face on the beat with the arrival of new Police Community
Support Officer – PCSO Dafydd Dewey.
Dafydd took up his role just over three weeks ago
and is enjoying being the new face on the beat and
will be responsible for the Berkhamsted castle ward
in the town.
He said: “I grew up in Berkhamsted so I already know
the area quite well and recognise a lot of faces but
I am very much looking forward to getting to know
more contacts. If anyone would like to speak to me
about any concerns they may have in the area, or just
to say hello I would urge them to get in contact with
me.
“I am looking forward to getting to know the beat
area better and helping the people of Berkhamsted
feel even safer and more reassured.”

Policing priorities For Berkhamsted Castle:
Vehicle crime
Vehicle crime in the town centre has remained low
for this month. Please remain vigilant, especially
if the warm weather continues. Do not leave items
on display, don't tempt the thief, they will take
advantage.
Theft from person.
We are pleased to say that there have been no reported
instances of theft from Person ( pick Pockets) during
the last month. There was however an incident where
a lady had left her purse unattended on the counter
in a local shop, and a man had walked in and removed
it whilst she was speaking to a shop assistant.
Although the shop was very quiet, with no other customers,
this is a prime example that thieves are about, and
you should look after your purse or handbags at all
times. The instances of this type of crime are very
low in Berkhamsted, lets all work together to keep
it that way. Know where your purse is, Lets make it
hard for the would be thief.
Parking issues
One of the attractions of living in an old town such
as Berkhamsted is the numerous narrow side roads with
Old Character buildings and narrow pavements. Unfortunately
the problem of restricted parking means that reports
of inconsiderate parking and blocked driveways are
regularly received by the Safer Neighbourhood team.
During the last month we have spoken with Staff at
Vinci Parking, who provides the parking attendants
for the town. We are working closely with them on
a reported incident whereby it is alleged a taxi driver
driven carelessly on the pavement near to Costa Coffee
in the High Street. That area has also been brought
to our attention with regard to cars being parked
on the pavement in the evening by people visiting
the Fitness First Gym. The Neighbour hood team are
looking at ways to raise public awareness of the inconvenience
that this causes, and will issue Penalty Notices for
parking offences where appropriate
