JAIL FOR HEMEL HEMPSTEAD MAN FOR POSSESSION OF COCAINE

Crown Court Justice

COCAINE with a street value of up to £3,700 was found when police raided a home in Hemel Hempstead.

Mobile phones, scales and wraps were also discovered in a blue chest of drawers at Danny Wheeler's address in Wood End.

When police raided his home in Wood End Close on 9 October last year, the 32-year-old told the officers: "It is all upstairs. I will show you what you want," said prosecutor Alison Ginn at St Albans crown court on Tuesday.

In all, 62 grams of the drug were recovered. It had a purity of between 11 and 18 per cent and had a street value of between £2,480 and £3,720. Two of the mobile phones recovered were examined and showed signs of drug dealing.

Wheeler, a man of previous good character, pleaded guilty to supplying Class A drugs.

Defence barrister Jessica Sabey said Wheeler was selling the drugs to clear his debts to drug dealers. He was supplying the drug on a social, not a commercial basis.

"The offence was a wake-up call. Since his arrest, he has gone 'Cold Turkey' to get off drugs himself. He is of previous good character and is due to be married," she said.

Judge John Plumstead jailed him for 15 months. He said: "There is no alternative but to send you to prison. You were in the position where you knew in your heart what a bad business dealing in cocaine is. If I thought you were a commercial dealer you would have got four years."
