DRUG DEALER GETS FIVE YEAR JAIL TERM

A TWENTY-seven year old man from Luton was sentenced to five years imprisonment at St Albans Crown Court last week (Thursday, June 24).

Daniel Nelson, of Paisely Close, was stopped in his vehicle travelling into Hemel Hempstead on Queens Way on September 16 last year. He was found to be in possession of a large amount of heroin and a small amount of cannabis. He was arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs (heroin), possession of cannabis and possession of criminal property.

Sergeant David Perkins from the Intelligence Unit said: “Although there isn't a significant problem with drugs in the Hemel Hempstead area, there are a small number of people who are involved with drugs and drug dealing and we are working hard to make sure drugs are kept off the streets of Hemel Hempstead.

“We will not tolerate drug dealers coming across the border into Hertfordshire and we are pleased that Nelson received a significant custodial sentence. We continually gather intelligence on such criminal behaviour so that we can successfully bring offenders to justice and hope this sentence sends a message out to potential drug traffickers that we will arrest you and you can expect a significant sentence from the courts.”

Police need the public's help in keeping illegal drugs out of Hertfordshire. If anyone has any information about where drug dealing is taking place or who is involved in class A drug supply or use, they are urged to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 0845 33 00 222.

If you do not want to talk to anyone in person, you can give us your information anonymously using a secure on-line reporting form on our website www.herts.police.uk on the ‘Drugs' page or ‘Report a Crime' section. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, an independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
